Produced by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Ratched), The Andy Warhol Diaries is a six-part limited series that aims to educate viewers on the famous pop artist, film director, and producer as a person beyond the Campbell’s soup can pop-culture persona. The contents are drawn from Warhol’s diaries, dictated to Pat Hackett from 1976 through to Warhol’s death in 1987 and appearing in the book he edited of the same name. While Warhol’s iconic art is discussed, the focus is more on his personal relationships, including his deep feelings for people like Jon Gould, an executive at Paramount Pictures, and painter Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The women soon find their lives going down a dark path they never foresaw. It’s a fun, female-led show that many fans believe was cancelled far too soon.

The Last Kingdom (2015)

Back for its fifth season, The Last Kingdom is a British historical fiction series based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. Set in the year 886 for season 1, the story follows the Great Heathen Army’s arrival in Britain and the changing relationship between the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons. By season 4, the time had shifted to 901 to 912. Critics praise the show’s cinematography and “magnificent action sequences,” calling the show a “highly gratifying historical drama.” The 10-episode fifth season is now streaming.

Thanks to a series of vague clues, the panel of judges and fans at home try to guess who they are. From icons like Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan to funnymen like Larry the Cable Guy and the late Bob Saget, the reveals are sometimes shocking. Basketball fans, take note of this sports drama based on the Jeff Pearlman book Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s and executive produced by Succession‘s Adam McKay. Season 1, which includes an ensemble cast led by John C. Reilly (as majority owner Jerry Buss) and Jason Clarke as former player Jerry “The Clutch” West, looks at the time from 1979 to 1991 known as the Showtime era. During those years, the Los Angeles Lakers won five NBA championships thanks to the skills and teamwork of greats like Magic Johnson (played by Quincy Isaiah) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Solomon Hughes) who engaged in the run-and-gun style of play. It’s a must-watch for not only Lakers fans but also for fans of the sport on the whole, delving into both the professional and personal lives of these iconic players and the story behind one of the most notable periods and teams in sports history.

In true Jason Bourne style, he can’t remember who he is, how he got to the hospital, and why a mysterious man wanted him dead. The first season, which presents more like a movie than a show, is a co-production between BBC and Stan. It premiered in early January in the UK and is now available to stream.

When fans left Midge Maisel at the end of season three, which streamed in December 2019, things weren’t going so well for the female comedian. She was on a high following her meteoric rise to fame after being discovered during an angry on-stage rant. But after almost outing her friend and co-worker Shy while performing at the Apollo, she got the boot. Fans have been waiting in anticipation to find out where Midge takes things from here. The wait is finally over as season 4 picks up in the ’60s and Midge pivots to performing with total creative freedom. This bodes well for her professional brand but not so much with family members and friends.

Ptolemy (Samuel L. Jackson) is an elderly man who finds himself alone while dealing with dementia following the loss of his caretaker. But when he meets with an orphaned teen named Robyn, the two find that they each have something to offer the other. As Robyn works with Ptolemy and a new treatment that can help restore some of his memories, however, Ptolemy realizes some hard truths about his life and his future. Early reviews of the series are positive thus far, calling the adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel “handsomely mounted and thoughtfully paced” and “a moving account of the bewildered existence endured by Jackson’s Ptolemy.” The first two episodes are out this week, with one more each week for the next four.

The star-studded voice cast includes Josh Gadd (who also co-created the show), Kristen Bell (voicing Molly in season 1, with Emmy Raver-Lampman taking over the role for season 2), Tituss Burgess, Daveed Diggs, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., and Stanley Tucci. The first season has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with critics calling the show “delightful.” Season 2 episodes resume this week.

You really can’t go wrong with a cast that includes Adam Scott, John Turturro, Patricia Arquette, and Christopher Walken, along with Ben Stiller directing. Indeed, this thriller keeps you at the edge of your seat and thoroughly disturbed with a similar tone and feel of the anthology series Black Mirror. Lumon Industries has created a new program that severs a person’s brain in two such that you can mentally separate your work memories from your non-work ones. When at the office, the second you arrive at your floor, every detail of your personal life is forgotten. Are you married? Not sure. Kids? No idea. How did you get that cut? Can’t remember. Likewise, back in your personal life, if someone were to ask how your day at the office went and what you did, you wouldn’t be dodging the question, you would legitimately not have a clue. Mark (Scott) finds himself torn when trying to reconcile his life as a member and staunch supporter of the program, particularly as his two worlds (sort of) collide and he begins to question things.
